Do you stumble over words to describe what you smell in your wine glass? Do you have trouble distinguishing the aromas and usually just fall back to fruity or smokey or earthy? Don’t worry. We ALL do.
Here’s a basic list of aromas, broken down into “typical” wine aroma/ flavor categories. Feel free to peruse here or print it out. It’s a fun tool to have when you are tasting your wines. Little by little these smells and tastes will start to take hold in your wine sensory memory bank. Soon, maybe you’ll even be able to detect black cherry in an Italian red as easy as you can distinguish garlic in your mom’s red sauce.
