A dimly lit spot, similarly named to the pub where Jack the Ripper met his victims, is the only strange thing about this find.
Focusing on organic wines this 30-seat bar has selections from small producers as far flung as Europe; Oregon and Morocco serves 15 all-natural biodynamic and sustainable wines by the glass and 50 more by the bottle. Prices for wine are reasonable at $10 a glass and $50 a bottle.
The Euro-inspired menu offers – in addition to the standard cheese-and-meat plates – wild boar sausage; lamb prosciutto; wild sea bass ceviche and duck tartare (all wonderfully under $10). Owners hail from Le Pere Pinard and Les Enfants Terribles.
Wines and small plates are listed on the chalk boards hanging from the walls.
Insider’s note: While looking for the restroom in the back of the space, pull open a door that leads not to the WC (though it is identical to the restroom door) but to a long, dim back room with a large table in it that seats 24 and is available at no charge for private parties.
